Exercise 1-2

Most of the articles from the website BBC that were related to technology were ‘’information technology’’ since all of them were telling us about the different incidents or happenings related to phones or applications related to communication.

Exercise 1-4

Rio Olympics – The Rio Olympics began in August 2016 and ICT had a big role in them. A lot of people are being affected by it. The new technologies make jobs for people and secure the perimeter for the people competing and watching. The ICT technologies include sensors related to fire and smoke, temperature and others which are essential to the health of the competitors and the viewers, ICT also plays a part in projecting the Olympics online. They have a big part in the social part, since they have to make sure that the information of the consumers (ticket buyers) and competitors stays secure and private or otherwise it can result in hack attempts or even assault attempts on the competitors. The social impacts and the cultural are that a lot of people will be coming in Rio which might result in cultural erosion and acquiring of new cultures since tens of thousands will be traveling in and out, it might also have a good impact on the society because tourism will bring in money but might result in higher pollution and damage of the cities.

 

Bike Rental in Chile – It started in 2015 – The company ‘’Bike Santiago’’ has launched the project for bike rentals around the city. There is an app which indicates where the bike stops are which makes it easier to find them and you can register with a credit card, make an account and 4 people can use this account and rent a bike by using a card that they receive upon registration. The starting fee is 7.5$ and for every 30 minutes since after the first half an hour its 0.75$. The people affected by this are the citizens of the city since now there is a cheaper and easier way of using transportation, and its available on many places – on the bad side is that it might make some accidents with the pedestrians if many people are using bicycles but special roads can be made for that to be solved. The IT systems involved are the locks – they are going to unlock once the card has been swiped and the payment has been done. Others are the online websites that show the certain points in the city where the  stops are, information of the credit cards of the customers have to be kept safe and information has to be processed correctly otherwise people might pay but not be able to use the service. This business or project might affect the government businesses as people might use less and less  the transport provided and switch to bikes, which also has a good impact on the global environment and on the nature as it is eco-friendly.

  • Technology has changed how humans interact with each other socially, how people purchase products and how the workplace functions, notes Megan Rose Dickey for Business Insider. Internet and Internet technologies are a strong force behind societal-changing communication and technology.

  • The ethical issue is that since the technology is rising throughout the years, they would need more material to create resources that could provide the technology sector. The advantage is that there would be more educated people in the society.
  • Social impact is the effect an organization’s actions have on the well being of the community.The technology could enhance individuals. Technology could also educate people from a certain aspect.

Use of software controlled medical devices

  • Advantages
  • You wouldn’t have to go the hospital to check your blood pressure and if you have any minor complications, you could check at home before getting worried.
  • It’s less time consuming if you have a medical device at home.
  • It’s a one-time cost.
  • Disadvantages
  • The medical device might not be fully accurate and could slightly be inaccurate.

Increased use of mobile phones by young people, especially school children

  • Advantages:
  • The children can benefit it studies by learning a lot on their mobile phones.
  • There
  • Disadvantages:
  • The kids would most probably be immature and they could surf the internet and do something wrong.
  • There is huge peer pressure to have a mobile phone with the latest technology and design.
  • Health issues, the new discovery is that mobile phones could actually cause serious health problems.
  • The mobile phones could distract them from studying.

The use of the internet to cast votes in national elections

  • Advantages
  • It would be faster to accumulate all of the votes.
  • The voting would be less time consuming because there would be no need to go to the poll stations
  • Disadvantages
  • The servers could get hacked and the votes could be changed.
  • The internet sites could crash because of overload.
  • The votes might not be fully accepted.
